Vitiligo is not contagious in any way and it does not caused by an infection. The actual cause of this disease is yet, unknown but vitiligo experts say that, “it is an immune disease which is caused due to inability of doing proper work by immune skin cells”.

Human body is made of tow types of tiny skin cell or building blocks.

a) Keratinocytes:(The skin cells which make up the bulk of the skin)
b) Melanocytes: (The skin cells that make the skin color)

In vitiligo patients, the immune skin cells (cells which fight against infection) attack on the melanocytes and kill them instead of killing germ cells. When the melanocytes die, the skin of that area turns white due to lack of melanocytes, which makes skin pigment or color.
